Hi all,
I have a 1992 8 hp #e8renm that I overheated from a bad water pump. After replacing the water pump, it runs poorly. I know it was pretty hot since the plastic shifter mechanism was melted, and so was part of the thermostat. The head is a little discolored, but no peeling paint. Also, the exhaust manifold bolts were somewhat loose, and leaked a little h2o.
It has little power, and is difficult to start. I did a compression check and found 90 psi in both cylinders. I removed the head and found that there is a little glazing on the cylinders, but nothing else. When looking at the rings from the exhaust manifold, they appear ok as well. There is spark in both cylinders.
Questions:
1. is 90 psi acceptable?
2. I plan on replacing head, exhaust gastkets, and themostat. Anything else I should do?
3. Do I really need to put new rings/hone the cylinder?
