Hey guys I have a 92 year model Tracker boat with a 92 yr Evinrude 60 hp 3 cylinder oil injection has been removed, I am very pleased with the over all performance of the boat and motor except for one thing. At idle the motor has the shakes, it has never died on me, like saying when your coming up to a dock slowly at low rpm it's shaking, even notice my console is shaking some froom the motor, loading on the boat trailer no problem dieing I can't be more happier the way it runs out across the water at WOT it's taching 5900, I gps 31.6 mph also boat speedometer was showing 31 mph this was with bimini top up and two people and fishing gear in the boat.I've never owned a Evinrude before and was just wondering if this is common for them to shake at low rpm or what would you guys suggest to get rid of the shaking.

Thanks

Tony

Some shake. Does it shake in neutral at idle? Or.just in gear?

Two things, usually.one carb is a little rich or vertical shaft may have an almost imperceptible bend in it.

Good question jakedaawg I,m not 100% if it does in N or not because when I notice it the most it's in gear slowing way down in speed.

In gear only, is mist likely a carb issue. In neutral also it can be either. In gear can also be a prop or prop shaft but they dont last long if yiu have a bent prop shaft. Its also hard to bend. The prop however....

Ok ! jakedaawg thanks for the reply, I was thinking a possible carb issue.

I have never seen the 56 cid block that idled well they just don't do it. They tried to fix it by putting adjustable jets on it that never really worked out as well as they had hoped. More than likely it is normal my 70 hp makes my trolling motor head do figure 8s if I don't strap it down.

Like i said, they shake some. I am assuming he is talking about excessive shaking because he owns one.

He said he never owned an evinrude before and wanted to know if it was normal. Chasing the idle on one of those is a fools game and saying they shake a little is an understatement . Worse thing Evinrude ever did was put the adjustable carbs on those motors because by the time you get it smoothed out you have it so lean it won't accelerate any more.

flyingscott I agree totally. The 60 was made out of left overparts basically. They shake. I missed the part where this was new to him.

With that said, i have been able to get many to idle acceptably and the shake to be minimized. They are tricky.

I wasnt calling you out, and apologizr if it came accross that way. I know very little about internet ettiqutte.

No apology necessary. I just wanted the OP to not have great expectations about the idle and not to expect miracles when he adjusts the carbs. I own 8 of those motors with and without the adjustable carb and they all idle rough. From the way his motor runs I would say it is a good running 60 hp.

I am glad to see this thread. I have a 91 70hp Johnson that I have been going through just because of the rough idle. I have checked eveything in the ignition and the compression is 125, 127, 125. Idles rough, but great up through mid range and wot @ 5600. Idling shakes the boat, however the boat will idle and troll just fine. The boat was running with oil and fuel mixed before I got the boat. I have fixed the vro and replaced the tank. Vro fuctions great. Last thing I am doing is rebuilding the carbs and waiting for fall to tear tnose apart. I am hoping to find some way to lesson the rough idle. However if this is the way the motor will run then I can live with it.
