Re: 91 force 50hp

I have enjoyed my force for the most part - compared to my Johnson - it has had hardly any problems. However - They are prone to broken rings - due to a bad factory piston problem - if it has been rebuilt - this may have been corrected. Forces have less bells - which means less to go wrong on the + side. However I would make sure your 16ft is rated for a 50hp engine.

G'day, Riz. Our colleagues like to beat about the bush a bit. Make the other guy give you the price of a good used 35hp engine along with the Force. It is a piece of junk.

Stick with the Evinrude. You will be much happier.

Red sky at night. . .
JB :)

If you constantly running at low speeds, trolling, etc.. You will keep Champion in business by replacing fouled up plugs..

My Force 50hp always starts but is very finicky and sounds like S**T. You can get the same performance out of a 35 or 40hp merc or Johnson.

i take it then that force outboards are ****e? the motor i would like is a 40hp yamaha but over here a used one of late 80's vintage costs about 4500 whereas the force i asked about is 2400. i guess you get what you pay for huh?

Re: 91 force 50hp

The opinions vary from person to person on Force. Personally, I like them much better than the 2000OMCs out there. And I like Johnyrudes which are older than 93.
I'm gonna do a search, and copy/paste my former post on Force motors...Maybee, I oughta just stick a copy of it in my doc folder :)
Here goes:
Member Rated:

posted June 02, 2001 11:59 AM
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
All I can add to this is;
I am so glad Force has this "less than stellar" reputation,so that I can capitallize on it!!!
How else am I to afford a 1996 120HP outboard that runs like a raped-ape, for less than 1000bukz??
Hold -out for a good price,Bob. And as long as the engine is strong, well maintained, enjoy it. Sure, you wont get much as a trade-in. And the boat won't sell for nearly as much as it would with a F.I.C.H.T.
(Failing Ignition Causing Horendous Trips)...
But at least it will start and run.

$1000 for a used 96 120 thats a smokn deal maties. I like the new yamahas, hondas best but thats because the germans are not building Mercedes and Beemer outboards.
