Any ideas how to get that air out of the line? Could I fill the tank and let it drain through the bottom of carburetor?

The "gas lever switch" is a combination filter and valve.

Awesome... Good info.... So it's safe to do away with the other filter and use a shorter line in a more direct route to the carb?

this line is going by wrong way.
gravity cant push fuel from tank to carb.
install fuel filter just at the fuel tank outlet

no need to worry about the air in the fuel line. and i would still use the inline filter, but as mentioned, put it under the fuel shut off valve.

What about the shut off also being a filter? I was thinking about doing away with the inline filter and extra hose past that. Then the amount of line between the shutoff and the current inline filter should be enough to run a more direct route to the carb eliminating the massive loop.

The fuel line loop is your problem.

Remove the filter, Loop the fuel line under the carb and don't shorten the hose from the tank(for now), make your connection.... and fire that sucker up!

It'll probably run like a dream. You need full choke to start it of course (right lever).

I'm sure we have one of those in the shop, so I can check the factory routing, but it may run through tight spaces since it would be beefier marine hose. What you have is fine for now.

Easier to leave the extra filter off for the moment, there's a better place for it.

Edit: you do not want any part of the hose to ever be above the bottom of the fuel tank. I add this, since you may need to zip tie the fuel line down to those port wires to keep the 180 degree bend to carb inlet from going too high.
You also want the 180deg bend gentle enough to not kink.

OK... Back in town... Of course arriving to a couple inches of snow and 10?. However.... Pulled the outboard into the basement to play with my fuel line situation. I think I got it....

For now I removed that extra filter and the small piece of hose below it.... Took what was left... Kept it low, ran it under the front of the carburetor and have it a nice short loop into the carb....
Check my pics compared to the older ones and see if you think I got it right

This will probably work fine, but doesn't it seem more likely that the hose was originally routed more directly from the tank to the carburetor on the other side of the powerhead, no loop at all needed?
BTW, the original OMC part number for the fuel line is 0115205. And your model number indicates a '93 model.

Looks good. A short length of split loom, where the fuel line touches surfaced is always prudent.

What you have should be fully functional.

I'll try to remember to look at one of those today in the shop, just for the factory routing if anyone cares.

There are a couple jets accessible from fuel bowl, you may want to clean them if it doesn't purr.

The screw on the port side is idle speed, not mixture.

Will still only fire up when I spray fuel in behind spark plug.... I'm guessing it's time to clean the carb!

Wow.... What makes that a 3.3 I'd it's so similar? Anyhow.... Love to have a visual reference.... however.... There is fuel all the way to the carb, in guessing it's gummed up. My thinking was if I spayed enough in to get it going it would get things moving. Probably won't get a chance to mess with it until Saturday.

I did check the fuel line from a unit in the shop. While it went above the carb, it was wedged quite tightly between carb and engine..

Your routing is fine and frankly an improvement.

Lol! Thanks a lot!

I'll try to get the carb cleaned this weekend.... I can't imagine it being anything else

Weimed suggested you check the compression. have you done that? I picked up a mid 80's Johnson 2 that turned over and had spark but wouldn't start if I payed it. Long story short: It had no compression. Both rings were stuck in place. I gave up after soaking for two months with every recommended solution. Replaced the rings, honed the bore and now I have it up and running. Check your compression!

I remebetr i purchased a 15hp force. It started fine ehen i bought it winter time. Spring came bottom cylinder had no compression. Got annoyed and threw it out. I regret that decision now. Sorry for hijAcking thread

Since the OP's engine lit off when he added fuel mix directly into cylinders, he's likely fine on compression. Too bad you couldn't get your rings unstuck.
Sometimes just getting them running and decarb will free em up.
