Help please... In 2005, I purchased a 2004 Johnson 2 stroke 90 hp OB for my pontoon oat. It was from and installed by a dealer. It went into service in july 2006, went thru breakin period, and used in freshwater july thru Sept each year before being stabilized, serviced, and stored under cover at a local Non dealer marine service. This was the beginning of the 3rd year of use and appox 30-40 hrs of use since new. I experienced a fuel starvation problem the 1st time out this year and limped home by constantly pumping the fuel line ball as it went empty. The marine facility took it back and led me to believe it was a problem he researched very common to this particular year and model. It smoked a bit on start up and I filled the VRO bottle faithfully always. During the course of diagnosis, the mechanic said at 5000 revs, the oil alarm went off breifly, he checked and oil was fine and there was oil in the line. Upon returning to the launch site, it thru a rod which cracked the block. 2 others who claim to have knowledge from Johnson dealers say probs with this year and model are common. BRP says, too bad, out of warentee. Can anyone shed info on this for me? Also, when new, I had replaced a 50hp with this 90 and there was NO appreciatable difference in performance and the mechanic said that when he first looked at motor, one of the carbs was not even opening when throttle was increased, to which he fixed before the engine blew runing at just under 5000 revs. Thx for the help.
