90 Sport Jet Carb Issues

I just picked up a 95 Reflexx with a 90 sport jet. It arrived in pieces. The carbs are missing and part of the motor was taken apart. I believe most of the pieces are there except for the carbs. The hull and the rest of the boat is in good shape. I'm going to have many questions as I go through this boat.

Where can I locate carbs for this motor? Is there any carbs from another motor that will work (ie by changing out the jets etc) I'm not looking for new carbs, just need 3 that will work.

Re: 90 Sport Jet Carb Issues

First and foremost you need to buy a manual . The Clymer manual # W815 covers the sport jet very well. I know one person that I have helped had found and bought a set of them and I an sure he will sell his old ones , I will try to get in touch with him. BUT prior to buying parts you really need to get , alot of small parts are obsolete and it may be better to buy used as an assembly. There is a salvage yard in FLA that someone told me about that has a few of these in it . I will look back through my notes and contact him also.

PS on the top of the block there should be a silver tag with the engine serial number , please post that number as 95 was a year of change for these motors.

I was hoping you would reply to this post.:) I've seen your name all over posts about these motors. Thanks for the # for the manual. I was planning on buying one and the # helps to get the right one.

I would REALLY appreciate any leads on parts. I was hoping to find the carb set up as an assembly as well, but I'll work with whatever I can find.

I've done a lot of work on cars in the past (restoring a 77 Trans Am right now) but not a whole lot of experience w/ boat motors. I had a boat a number of years ago but I didn't have to do much to it and I didn't have it for too long. I've got two older jet skis but knock on wood they haven't needed a whole lot.

I checked the top of the motor for the tag. I could not locate it. There are two sets of numbers on the top of the motor. One is 900-817608-c1 and on the other side its NMSJ144. The title says OE101256 but I can't be sure it is still the same one at this point.

Thanks again, and I look forward to hanging out on here.

Re: 90 Sport Jet Carb Issues

Still have not heard from him but your carb numbers are :
top carb WB122a
center carb WB123a
Bottom carb WB124a

Do you have all the throttle and choke linkages ?

There is also a guy in GA that does these carbs for a living , let me find him again and he would be the one to ask what else may work as these carbs are obsolete from merc unless a dealer has old stock .

I don't know exactly what parts to the linkages I have. There are a few parts there. I'll have to compare it to a parts diagram and see.

I did a search to see if anyone was selling those carbs by the numbers listed but no luck so far. I'll continue to look.

Re: 90 Sport Jet Carb Issues

I still haven't found carbs.
I'm begining to wonder if the motor that is in this boat is the one it came with. It bolts up and everything, but the electronics on the side look a little different than what I have seen in other pictures. There is no sticker on the top of the motor to match it up to what is on the title.
I will try to post up some pics so maybe someone can tell me what I have going on.
The top of the motor has NMSJ144 stamped on top. I don't know what that means.

Does anyone have some pictures of the side of their motor etc that they could post? That way I can compare mine to them and see what I'm working with.
Thanks

Re: 90 Sport Jet Carb Issues

If you look at Chronomaina SJ90 thread go through the entire thing as he posted quite a few pictures , They may help . His is a CDM conversion with no switchbox , If you have a Switchbox let me know and I will track some down or take a pic of mine tonight.
Still trying to find that guy in Georgia think I am getting close , It was over a year ago that I talked to him.

Check ebay item number 120584112156 , get him to send you the WB numbers off each carb and If they are the ones I think they are they will work as long as you have the choke type setup and not the auto enricher

My pics:
Ignore the round metal piece in the back of the wiring picture. That does not belong to this boat. I don't know why that was in the picture.

Re: 90 Sport Jet Carb Issues

I really hope I am wrong here but the first thing you need to do is count the splines on the jet drive and count the splines in the engine crankshaft . It looks like a Sport Jet block but the ignition system is not from 95 and could be an aftermarket CDM conversion . Also look on all parts and start posting up part numbers !!

I was thinking the same thing with the splines over the weekend. I counted the splines the other day and they were the same. I'm going to double check tonight to make sure I counted correctly but I believe it is. The motor was sitting in the boat when I got it so they were mated together.

The ignition system has the 3 coils, and 2 boxes that look identical. The coils have a black and a white coming out of them. The other two boxes have wires coming out of the back of it.
They are as follows:
3 wires in the bottom corner, blue, red, and white w/ a green tracer.
2 wires from the left side, one white, one black
2 wires from the right side, one orange, one red
3 wires from the upper right corner, one orange, one green, one yellow

The only #'s on the parts are as follows:
The coils have the # 338 stamped into the side of the plastic case
Of the other two boxes, one has 458 and the other has 448 stamped into the side of the plastic casing.
