I noticed signs of water in the bottom cowling after I took the boat to the lake yesterday. It had already dried up due to the heat of the motor. I ran the motor on the hose and didnt notice any leak. Motor pees fine.

I am worried though that I blew either a head gasket or water gasket.

Any ideas?

A lot of Mercs do not have head gaskets. Some help on the year would help us help you. If your motor is an inline six, it will not have a head gasket, just a water jacket gasket.

Motor is a 1999. Three Cyl. two stroke.

Thanks for the reply. Is it difficult to change a water jacket gasket and is there a reason why it might have blown.

Thanks again

Looks like no cylinder head on that motor. I recommend you find the source of the leak before ripping into it. Could be thermostat cover gasket as well.
