I have a 70 hp evinrude on my pontoon boat, Iam wanting to take the oil tank off and mix my own gas and oil in fuel tank, is it ok to plug oil line going to pump and it run ok ? and not mess the pump up. I just dont trust that the engine will get oil all the time like it is supposed to.

I think it's not that simple and you have to replace a pump or something.

Re: 90 evinrude 70 hp

That is what I did and it's been running great for two years. Mine is a 92 Model 60 HP, but basically the same 3 cyl. It smokes a little more at low speeds but that in itself reassures me. The VRO leans out the oil at low speeds to prevent the smoke. I switched to Pennzoil Syn., but stuck with the 50:1 mix. That helped the smoke a little. I don't run much at slow speeds anyway. I have read this would work OK, and it has so far for me. I also read that it will only run a few years, then I will need to convert to a "Fuel Pump" only setup. I'm happy for now, and know I will not hear the warning buzzer right after I melted a piston!
