Finally getting everything worked out on this motor. Stator was bad and thought it was the 16 amp stator but turns out it was a 9 amp. My engine only has the small square rectifier. It is overcharging the battery. Maxed out the gauge at 16 volts. I don’t want to burn anything up. Can I add a regulator or different rectifier to match the 16 amps? Thanks for all the help

we ran 16 amp stuff on our junk without a reg for many years without a problem... replaced a few rectifiers though................

20 amp should work? 16 amps without regulator didn’t damage battery or anything by overcharging?

never did it with us... had a very good battery program and a coupla things (big fuel pump, tunes and such) that would pull a few amps almost all tha time tha key was on

I kept boiling the battery with my 1975 850 Merc. Voltage gauge was running at 17 anywhere above half throttle. Installed a 6 wire regulator, voltage now steady at 14.5v. You'll have to get creative with mounting.
