9.9 mariner runs rough

I have a 1996 9.9 mariner that runs rough. Won't run up. barely idles. cleaned carb. no change. could it be electrical?? if so what should I check

Check your spark. I repaired one for a friend that was doing the same thing and it had a bad coil.

thanks. pulled plugs & there was spark on both plugs. Not sure if its strong enough though. Could it be stator or trigger?? there is spark so I suspect stator /trigger good.

Have you checked your timing? The spark should be a nice blue color. orange is normally weak.

spark looked good. definitely not orange color. how do you check timing?
