I have a 9.9e Mariner outboard, Serial Number 682CS251120, Made Japan in 1983 I think. The engine is little used and in really good shape.I would like to know if it is possible to, and the pros and cons of

A) installing a BOYESEN efficient induction Reed and (B) fitting a carb from a 15 hp mariner. I have heard that the only diference betwwen the 9.9 and 15 hp mariners of this year is the carb?
Also good sources of new and used parts

Thanks in Advance
Stewart in Connecticut

Re: 9.9 mariner power increase

You got me on the carb-same-as part, but on the Boyesen Reeds, they are awesome on large-bore engines!!
I never read anything about smaller engines, but would guess an increase in hole shot and top-end there also.

Re: 9.9 mariner power increase

Not sure about your first question with the induction reed but I do know you can change the 9.9 carb to a 15 hp carb. I changed the carb on my Mariner 9.9 to a 15 hp and it works great, more power not bad on gas and can still go slow enough to troll for walleye. (I also checked with the dealer and the only difference between a 9.9 and a 15 was the carb.)
Moose
