I picked up a 2005 4 stroke 9.9 hi thrust remote control version to tinker with. I checked compression and came up with 185 psi on both cylinders. At first it was only 150 but after opening carb butterfly all the way it went up to 185. While cranking I noticed the oil dipstick shoot out of its spot in the block. I cranked some more and I'm getting large pulses of air coming out of the dipstick hole. Oil level is very low ( not reading any on the stick) does this pressure problem point to anything while having good compression? Thanks

I would think low oil could damage lots of things.
.
time to take it apart to see what has been damaged

Could it be doing this because the oil is empty? Previous owner may have drained it and never refilled it. He didn't use it without oil in it

I'm afraid to put oil in it and try to start it. I don't want that pressure to go blowing oil out of the dipstick hole. Something doesn't sound right with that area being pressurized but how come it made good compression?
