My 4 stroke 9.9 Mariner of 1997 vintage is not easy to start from cold, but starts instantly on easystart (naughty!)
I have the manual but it is no help in checking if the electric choke is working, can someone tell me how I can check it is working O.K. please?

Re: 9.9 choke, working?

Hi Gerry,thanks for reply.
Engine number is OHO11825 and the manual I purchased is a "SERVICE MANUAL" dated 1998 90-856159R1 which I do not think is the exact match as my engine does not have a oil warning light or oil filter fitted but I think it is basicaly correct?
Any help much appreciated! Martin

Re: 9.9 choke, working?

Martin;

This is the correct manual for your engine, P/N: 90-827857R1.

http://1manual.com/Mercury manuals/Service Manual PDFs/FourStroke/827857r1/cover.pdf

You must have Adobe Acrobat reader installed to use this manual. If you scroll down to the lower part of the opening page, you will see the various engine components in red. Click on the one you want and when the first page opens, click on the "Save As" icon at the top LH corner of the page and you can save it to your computer.

Your engine is a model:

7F10312FD MARINER 1997 9.9

Parts listing:

http://www.crowleymarine.com/mercury-outboard/815.cfm

You will find the Electrothermal Valve resistance and piston height checks under Carburetor, page 3B-7 of the service manual.
