Hi I have a johnson 10R76G and have been looking to put a charging system on it to charge a small battery for a fish finder. after searching these forums i found part number 173358 but it list as for 1977 and up . does anyone know if this will fit my motor ? it looks like the kit comes with a coil and rectifier and wire does anyone know if this is the same coil as if it were electric start?
Thank You

Re: 9.9 chargeing

If you trailer your boat, it'll be a lot cheaper to buy a small battery charger and use that. A lot easier, too. I'm not sure of the parts you'd need, but if the only electronics you're using is a fish locator, you don't need to charge your battery while out fishing. If your battery is running down, get a little larger one and charge it at home.

If you're at a dock or slip, though, it might be worth putting a stator in your 9.9.

Add: Well, I went to this page:

http://www.ishopmarine.com/ishop/js...Code=005&reqBookCode=READFROMDB&reqPageNum=92

It shows that the kit doesn't fit the 1976, and nothing is listed for that year or earlier 9.9s. I'm betting you can't add a charger to yours.

Thanks CATransplant i thought if it wasnt a big deal i might find some used parts or this kit but i think i will just buy a solar panel and stick it on top of the motor. i would like to make running lights so it would be nice to be able to trickle charge the battery

The parts diagrams show part no 581387 as the stator (coils ) for the electric start version. That will fit wont it. I did not see the rectifier listed but a rectifier from a later model will do.
