9.8 merc no spark

I got a 71 9.8 merc 110 not getting anyspark.Anyone know how to check the coils and stator to see which is my problem?

This is the earliest and worst system to trouble shoot here goes nothing
First no spark-ck Cond (capacitor) test with a condenser tester .45 to .55 mfd. and pass the leakage test

Hard starting or low speed miss- test low speed winding red to yellow--r x 100 = 32 to 40 ohms -- next test rectifier module red lead to rect. terminal and black lead to terminal the cap would be connected to--r x1000 =10 to 15 -- no reading with the leads reversed

High speed miss--test high speed winding--blue to yellow--r x 10 = 1.6 to 2.0 ohms--next test module red lead to terminal where the blue connects and black where the cap. would be connected--r x 1000 = 4 to5 ohms-- no reading with leads reversed

Check the insulators where the points wires connect, they crack and leak spark energy to ground. New insulators are cheap and still available.

Points may look burnt but that's common on this "phase maker" type of ign and as long as there's continuity they should make a spark. You can pull them out, take apart, clean to bare metal on a whetstone, degrease and reinstall and they'll be fine. Adjust points gap to .020".

Check the continuity of the kill switch, if I recall this ign has to be grounded thru the kill switch to operate.

New stator rings are available aftermarket but they ain't cheap! Check on this site or try the CDI Electronics links at www.boatfix.com

Thanks for the help, ended up not being grounded at the kill switch.After I fixed that it started on the first pull.
