Hello to all. I need help for a 1973 Evinrude 9.5 I bought used.
The motor was doing ok until I decided to go faster and the handle gave out, as the gears were stripped. I repaired that. Then I tried, foolishly to run the motor out of the water in my garage for a few seconds to ensure the new gears worked well.
I changed the water pump and took out the motor for a drive. The water coming out of the rear hole is very hot and water was leaking out of the top of the head. It was the pull chord, which was not tight. I bought new gaskets and changed all three gaskets on the motor.
I then took off the foot and ran a hose up on the copper tube water intake from the water pump. I expected water to come out of the top hole at the back of the motor. Some water comes out, but most of it goes down the bottom part of the motor, to exhaust through the foot.
My question is that normal? I am thinking either the block is cracked or the thermostat is stuck.
Thanks for the help.
I am new at this mechanical servicing and look for guidance.
Best regards,
Piertechpierre
