I just bought a Jon boat with a 72 9.5hp Evinrude motor. But it seems I cant find much info on it. Everything I look at is for a 9.9 or a 9.9/15. What is the difference if any?

Also, I though I had a repair manual for it but its just the owners manual. Im looking at a repair manual here on iboats by SELOC. Is that a good repair manual?

Thanks, Patrick

I would stick to a factory OEM Service manual, found on either Ebay or outboardbooks.com for a factory reprint.

Re: 9 1/2 hp Evinrude?

Thanks everyone. I looked at all the links you gave. I had already saw the post on the other 9.5. The info on the BRP sight says for a 9222M. The number on my motor is 9222R. Whats the difference? The one on ebay looks like it might work. I have read the FAQ on awakening a sleeping outboard. So there some things I need to do befor I use it this summer. My understanding is that the motor hasent run for about a year and a half. So I want to make sure I have the right repair manual for order parts.

Thanks again for all your help.

The service manual has very few part numbers listed. You will need to get them from a parts catalog, preferably one that is online. You can order OEM parts on line.

The number is the year's model number. The trailing letter is a factory run or a design change during the year. The best you get is a annual factory service manual. You could go for the next year's manual, but it may have different features.

9222 is the short shaft Evinrude 9.5HP for 1972, 9223 is five inches longer.

When you buy parts from a BRP dealer and give your model and serial number, they can look up the design changes if there are any. You could also compare the parts year-to-year in the parts catalogs.

Thanks ezeke. I went ahead and bought the manual on ebay. I guess if I have problems with p/n's. Ill get a parts catalog as well. But all of you have pointed me to some good places on the web for parts. And I have found a local shop about 11 miles from me as well. So I dont think Ill have any problems finding any parts that I will need to get this thing ready for summer.

Thanks
Patrick
