898 1981 Mercruiser replacement motor

Can anyone tell me whether a 350 car motor can be a direct replacement for a seized 898 using the same parts or am I looking at major expense

you're looking at a lot of work anyway -- car engines and boat engines use similar blocks, but thats where it ends... You would need a marine Cam, marine heads, marine carburetor, marine alternator, marine distributor, marine manifolds (intake and exhaust), brass freeze plugs, marine starter and so on and so forth...........
