I was driving along at ~25mph and suddenly the Tach just about pegged and the boat stopped. Wont engage in forward or reverse. Engine runs fine. Any suggestions? First time boat owner. Thanx in advance.
I found the problem. I removed the four bolts on the outdrive so I could see the gears as they transfer from horiz to vertical and they are coimpletly worn. What's next?
I spoke with a mechanic friend of mine who gave me an estimate of $800.00 to rebuild the outdrive. Is this a decent price? He said the parts alone are $400. Can someone please reply back? I havent had much luck with this forum.
$800. AINT BAD FOR A UPPER REBUILD, Ive got quite a few 3.0 uppers used for sale. What years your boat? Im in texas,dont know what shipping would be since I dont know where you are.Upper housings have changed over the years so let me know year model if you want a used one.Also you need to find the reason WHY your upper failed. it could be a lower seal problem. theres another $300.
