Hey guys looks like there are a lot of knowledgable people on this forum so I figured I would post my restoration project. Long story short, bought the boat 4 months ago, unbeknownst to me the boat had a pretty nasty crack in the hull, stringers are most likely rotten, along with transom, core, etc go figure. First time restoring a boat so i'm sure ill have quiet a few questions along the way! So far I have pulled the motor, stripped interior, built motor stand, built cradle with side supports for hull, and have started to take the cap off. Here are some pictures of my progress to far. Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated!

Fisherman302, looks like you have the right idea thus far. You may consider adding a few support braces to the side section so when you remove the cap, the hull doesn't splay out. And take a ton of pictures AND a lot of measurement now before you separate the parts. Other then that, seems you are on the right track already. Post lots of pictures because that helps us answer your questions. JMHO!

thanks for the reply gm280 i will definitely consider that. Do you think i just need some more support towards the front of the boat or the ones built wont be sufficient?

I have every part of my cap free except at the back where the splash well meets the transom. It's super tight back there I have tried looking to see signs of glue or PB behind there and removed everything in the way so i could see but its just too tight. I have seen a few restorations where people had trouble with this part. I made a pretty clean cut at the top of the transom i'm sure its totally free there my oscillating tool blade is just about the length of the top of the transom so i know i'm all the way through. Was mainly wondering where i should cut the splash well or what would be easier to fiberglass in the long run. I have seen people cut just the top where the cap meets the top of the transom and pry, use oscillating tool, where the glue/ PB is (first picture) and I have seen people cut the whole splashwell out (second picture). Thoughts?

Uhmm, Yeah, I think they are!!! You need to use a chisel and remove the aluminum or brass tube inserts from the drain holes!!!

Fisherman, What I was talking about with the supports on the other edge of your cradle is this.

You can see the black outline. That will offer more support, and I'd put one at each upright 2 x 4. Then when you do remove the cap, the hull won't splay out when you are crawling around in the hull. And that is what I was talking about with lots of pictures and measurement too. You won't believe how you will refer to those things down the road. Looks like you have this under control though. :thumb:
