I have an 89 50HP Force on an 87 Bass Tracker (that has wood build on interior with exterior aluminum). The boat seems very heavy at 15 ft. 4".<br /><br />With only 1 or 2 people in the boat, the boat will go at approximately 30 mph (boat has tilt and trim), if I get two full size adults, or 3 or more people (approximately 550 lbs), it doesn't seem to want to go more than 10 mph and the boat won't plane.<br /><br />Any suggestions? Change the prop? Change the motor? I had previously an 87 Suzuki that worked great until it just died.<br /><br />Additionally, the motor when started, will need to be revved until it gets warm, or when you put it into gear, will stall. Additionally, when the engine is warm, (I like trolling in my local lake with the Force engine), it will often go for a while, but then suddenly die and then continue to die ever so often at low idle.<br /><br />Any suggestions?
<br /><br />First of all, make sure it's running on both cylinders. Pull the sparkplugs and have a look. They should be burning alike. If one looks significantly different than the other, you have a motor problem. Otherwise a propeller with a much smaller pitch should get you out of the hole better and allow the motor to develop full RPMs. It's not uncommon for boatowners to have different props for differing loads. It's always a good idea to have a spare in case one gets damaged on an outing and I usually advise two different pitched props.<br /><br />You may need to rebuild the fuel pump for the stalling problem. If it's weak, it may not pump much fuel at low RPMs. If it's leaking internally it can also cause running problems. Rebuild kits are cheap. If it's never been done, it's long past due.
