89 Blackmax Tilt Pump

Hey guys,

The Tilt/Trim pump is failing on my 89 200hp Blackmax. Ive been searching the internet looking for a replacement pump, but can't figure out which pump suits my motor. The serial number is OC137816, if anyone can help with lining me up in the right direction for a pump that would suit, please copy and paste me a link. I am located in Australia, if this helps

Hi Sincs,

Your serial number is coming up as a 175hp, not a 200

The Merc number for the pump is -99186T.

Oh really, That is interesting haha, It's a bitsa of a motor, the block is dated 91 and its a bridgeport, but i guess now I know its living in the casing of a 175 Blackmax.

I suppose the next question is - Can the pump be fit while the motor is still on the boat? Due to the rear bolt being behind the unit this may be difficult.

If you have small hands, and 1/4" drive sockets, or long allen keys, yes it can. But it is easier to do it with the engine swung off...

Just what I wanted to hear after putting the motor back on the boat a few weeks ago haha. Might see what the Mercury bloke would charge to install it. haha.

All you need do is hang the engine and remove the bolts holding it to the transom. You don't need to remove any of the cables or the steering, just swing it out and access the trim motor from 'inside'....
