its olny 3 wires but has been a pain! my trim has blue, black, and green wires from the cylinodes to the trim motor. the system works but the green wire is bad. how hard is it to replace this wire? do i need to take the trim motor off to do this (i would like to not have to). it seems like such an easy fix but as all things tend to be with boats, its not!

Is the green wire bad with corrosion? Check from the green and blue wire to the black wire with an ohmmeter. There should be near zero resistance. If there is resistance, the motor has a problem.

You may be able to drop the motor, and leave the motor bolted to the boat, after a fashion.

Re: '89 115 tilt and trim

the green wire is not bad or corroded. i know the motor works becuse it will trim up with the blue wire on the up cilonode and if i put the blue wire on the down one it tilts down. so the motor and cilonodes are good. this leads me to beleave that the green wire inside the trim motor is loose, broken or corroded. i need to get into the trim motor to check this out but i cant see an easy way to do it short of taking the trim motor off. how hard is it to take the motor off? is it bad to try and take the cover off the motor without taking the motor off? im trying to do it the easy way and take apart as little as possible. any advice?
