'88 Sunbird Corsair OMC 3.0 engine cover replacement?

Does anyone know of any company that provides replacement covers for inboards or is there somewhere I can go to find ideas on customization of one? I just purchased the boat in pretty raggedy condition (which sat in a driveway since '97 uncovered) and am looking for a way of hightening the "eye appeal" by replacing/cutomizing this cover. Any help would be appreciated. I tried to upload an attached pic but it was too large.

If you use microsoft paint, you can resize the photo to 640x480 resolution. You could try to be creative and make a mould and make a new fiberglass cover yourself. I don't think you'll have much luck finding a brand new cover.

Subathai,
Welcome to Iboats.
The best way to post pic's here is to start a account on photobucket.
You can resize your pic's to the before mentioned standard size 640 X 480 and post in your thread. It's also free.
Go down to Non-Boating Technical Topics and read the sticky's on how to post pic's.
Once again welcome.

Thanks for the advice guys. Since wieght is a big issue with boating, you're saying fiberglass would be best for a cover oppossed to wood? At the present time, it has a plastic, foam filled cover but it has substantial weathering and cracks. I'll get on photobucket and see if I can attach a photo of it.

Wood is good too, if you can make something that you're happy with in the end, I'd say go for it! Lets see that photo though, maybe we can help give you ideas how to spruce the original up?

Like I said, it's in pretty shabby condition but I haven't found anything anywhere that offers a replacement part for it. I'd rather custom make one but I want to avoid any excessive heat on the cover or even worse; fire.

This is how it is currently looking. I thought about using the same theme throughout with the dark stained wood.

Subathai / chargerboy,
I just noticed that I welcomed the wrong one to the forum but hey almost everyone is welcome.
I like the fiberglass covers but wood will work to as previously posted. Just make sure you seal it good.
The last pic looks a lot cleaner.:D
Good luck and have fun

I think matching dark stained wood would look great. That old cover looks pretty hopeless. Let us know how it goes, and make sure to post a pic of the finished product!

Good luck!

Bob/Chargerboy,
Thank you for your compliments and the welcome. I will definately show you guys what it looks like once it's all done. I just got the bench sealed and ready for my wife to make the seats and the next step is the engine cover. I'll add to this thread once I get it on there. I'm thinking about going with the wood just because it has a "covertly classy" kind of look to it. Thanks again guys.

few days late to this thread, but my suggestion, you could build a wood cover, then fiberglass over top of that to get a smooth "factory look" finish you could paint to match. (this is my first post, but I found your thread as I'm working on a friends 89 sunbird 188 restore as well :) ) Good luck!
