Looking for some help. I have a 88 Mercury 35hp that will not stay running. It starts and runs for a about 20 seconds and shutsoff. It seem to lose its prime. I have already replaced the primer bulb from the tank, rebuilt the fuel pump, replaced the fuel filter and fuel lines. I had a fried help me and we checked for fuel flow. We had good fuel through the fuel pump and up to the carberator inlet. I ordered a rebuild kit for the Carberator and hope this fixes the problem. But in case it doesn't I wanted to get some ideas in advanc. If anybody has any ideas, I would appreciate them. It getting late in the year and it driving me crazy that we can't get my pontoon on the water.

Thanks

Re: 88 Mercury 35 Fuel Issue

It still sounds like it's either starving for fuel or sucking air up from the tank instead of gas.

Check all lines, and connections before fuel pump for a kink, wet spot, or some area of leakage where air can get into the fuel line.

You might want to go back over your fuel pump service and look for a reason.

If it stays running ok with a pump of the bulb it's probably not the carb.
