88 Merccruiser 3.0L

I was out on the lake this weekend checking out the engine. I had the carb over off to view the operation of the carb to make sure all was well. Unfortunately my buddy dropped the cover nut and we were unable to locate it. Even though it is unlikely it fell into the carb, if it did should stay in the bowl and not cause any issues??? Or am I just wishful thinking. I have already ran the engine for 10-15 mins 1000-3500 rpms with no issue. ( well not an issue with that) :facepalm::facepalm::facepalm:

It would be my guess that you could hear allot of clattering followed by engine siezure possibly!!!? If it where me and as Bond-o said "roll the dice" which I don't gamble pull the carb and then the mani and start looking $20.00 in gaskets is worth the possible 2k for a new engine you make the call!

Snap , crackel , and pop goes the motor. you need to find it , remove the carb and see if its on the floor of the manifold, or remove the manifold .sucked into a cylinder could be an instant death of the motor.

My guess is if the nut really did fall into the throat of the carb, the nut is probably at the bottom of the lake, or imbedded in the piston.....
