Help.
I have a 40 hp Mariner outboard. The motor heated up and scarred the top cylinder.
I am in the process of removing the powerhead. Is there a special tool to hold the
flywheel? Also a special tool to pull it off? I have a wheel puller that looks like it will work.
Any videos available showing how to remove the power head?
Thanks :joyous:

The flywheel puller has to be the kind that bolt into the fly wheel no hooks that hold the edges. They are also called harmonic balancer pullers. Use a strap wrench to hold the flywheel. Back off the flywheel bolt/nut off about a 1/4". Put the puller on the flywheel tighten the bolts down so it is level. Then tighten the center bolt on the puller as tight as you can and whack it with a carpenters hammer like driving a nail. Keep repeating till it comes off.

Welcome to iboats Hoopz, but please start a topic about your motor and the problems/work needing to be addressed.

Thank you
