I have a water connection that Y's from the outboard tattle tale, the hose is 1/2" and ends with what looks like a check valve. What is this for? Do I need it, and where is the barbed connection supposed to go? Thanks in advance.

I think you're talking about the aspirator. It's supposed to suck out any water that might get in the the pan. I didn't think they came out until the 89 models but maybe they did come on the 88 models. (Or maybe you got a newer motor that you think)

That check valve is supposed to be in a large piece of hose with an uneven cut on the bottom. It just sits in the low part of the pan.
