Hey all my buddy just brought me down this motor. He couldn't get it started. I took the carb off and soaked it overnight and then sprayed out all the jets with compressed air. Put it back together and I still couldn't get it to fire. I did however get it started in forward with a little throttle. After I got it running it ran great but when I got it to a certain point where I started backing off the throttle a little it would die. Again I tried starting it in neutral and nothing. As soon as I start it in forward with a little throttle it would fire right back up. Is there any way I could advance the throttle a little in neutral so i could get it started in neutral? There seems to be a plate that only allows a certain amount of throttle while in neutral. My question is if it's just a certain adjustment I need to make or is it actually a fuel delivery problem elsewhere? I can post pics of even a video of my post wasn't specific enough. Thanks all!

Pics always help. I've read that carb. soaks can deteriorate any rubber/plastic parts.

On the carb itself you need to make sure you had the idle mixture screw set 1 turn out from slightly seated or even up to 1 1/8 turn out. Depending on your carb model this screw could be on the left side of the unit or at the front. It is receded and brass in color with a slotted head and spring (not seen unless you unscrew it all the way out). Then there is the idle screw which adjusts the throttle setting in neutral. Depending on your model again, but usually this screw adjust the position of the throttle and is usually located and mounted with the throttle lever arm. Again a pic of the carb and its throttle linkages will help a lot.

Thanks guys. I haven't had much time to look at it for my buddy. I know the idle screw your talking about in the carb and I have not really tried adjusting it yet or anything. It could very well be a problem. At a quick glance I don't recall seeing the throttle setting linkage. Maybe after work I'll snap a quick pic and post it on here. Probably won't be able to do anything with it until Wednesday after work. Thanks again

Check the fuel pump. Clean it with some carb cleaner.
Also check the quick connect fitting for the fuel air could be entering through their

Alright well here's a few pics and a few short videos...

Here is the idle screw on the carb. This was way out. I turned it in and lightly seated it then backed out 1 turn (180*).

Here is the plate that doesn't allow me to advance the throttle into neutral any further

Here is the the furthest I can advance the throttle position in neutral. (Which I presume is normal)

It seems to run pretty good one I get it going. As you can see the throttle doesn't need much more advancement past the "start" postion to run. Do I just need to figure out a way to adjust the throttle while its in neutral so I can get it started in neutral?

From the first picture, there is throttle linkage (with red arrow) that you can adjust to set the initial position of the throttle. The only problem I see in adjust this it does not advance the timing with the throttle position. On the second picture there has to be an adjustment on the thread rod that controls the lever connecting to the throttle linkage. Shortening or lengthening this adjust the idle and also the timing. You might want to experiment which one adjustment works better. But if you just examine the throttle linkage I'm quite sure you will see an idle screw adjustment. The screw with spring is the idle mixture which you already set properly.

Re: 88 force 15 hp 2 stroke starting issue

Alright so I adjusted the one rod. Now i can get it to start and run nicely in neutral. And I can get it to shift into gear and stay running. I just took it out in the lake for a test run. Fired right up. Put it into gear and putted along for a minute. As soon as I gave it full throttle it wanted to die right off. If I kept it at half throttle it would stay running but not anywhere close to as fast as it should have been going. When I got it home i took the cowl off and I noticed some gas under the carb dripping. Do I need to adjust this rod more to just the right setting? Or is this a different matter?
