I recently got this boat. it has a 350ci omc sterndrive. i had to pull the engine to replace the flywheel. i noticed that one of the exhaust flappers is missing. Are these important? i saw that volvo was saying to remove them online somewhere and wanted to know if it was worth replacing the missing one or just taking the other one out? Apparently they are hard to find

If it were me, I would replace both of them with new ones. You can buy them.

Yes,

I know Volvo discontinued them for the newer SX drives. You don't have an SX.

Totally agree with replacing them, you have an older engine designed to use them. If they were not replaced you could be rolling the dice for water ingestion. Water on exhaust valves breaks things

Re: 88 donzi regazza

I will be ordering them in a few days. Next question, After putting the engine back in it wouldnt start. I thought that i had flooded it. I looked at it again today and found the problem, the distributor gear it stripped out. from the wear on it ti looks original. Does anyone know where I can get a replacement gear? The distributor looks fine. I have changed them on cars before

Your probably going to need another distributor but give us your engine serial number and we can try to find one..Another point is with the distributor gear stripped how does the cam gear look

Re: 88 donzi regazza

I am going to order a gear from carquest and see what it looks like. its worth the $6 to try it. I am assuming that a chevy 350 is a chevy 350. I know on car engines the distributor gear in always softer than the cam gear, and from what i can see, the cam gear looks ok. there are two sets of numbers on my engine. model:574APRGDP serial:T1064360 and model:985288 serial:T0578301

The distributor gear will be the same.

Are you sure the distributor gear was destroyed? Normally the roll pin in the gear will break if there is a lock. Furthermore, you have bigger problems if that occurred. Something locked your distributor. Debris of some sort may have got into your oil pump, thus locking the distributor. The cam is gonna keep on rollin...

Re: 88 donzi regazza

the gear was just worn to where the teeth were paper thin. I have seen this several times on chevy trucks. I got the gear this after noon, the hole was a little too small for the shaft so I drilled it out and it works great. Engine fired up in about 2 sec. I can't seem to find any type of timing mark on the balancer, How have any of you set the timing on one of these?
