I went to start the motor up this season and it would not turn over. I removed the starter and replaced it due to it being in horrible shape. Now the motor was turning over but would not fire. I checked, cleaned, and gapped the points and replaced the spark plugs and now I have spark but it wont fire. The firing order is correct and I have a remote ignition switch on the coil and on the starter which allows me to bypass the neutral safety. I am putting starter fluid in the carb as well as using fresh fuel. The next step is a compression test but can anybody think of anything else? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

if you have spark and fuel, next step is compression

if compression is for sure good, you missed something in fuel or spark

BTW - do you have good spark?? nice sharp blue spark?? or weak thin orange spark?? - you should be able to hear a spark tester in the coil wire from the helm while cranking
