Very new to owning a boat but I'm pretty mechanically inclined. I've been looking through parts fiche's and manuals and can't find this on my own. I have what appears to be a Carter Pump - High Volume (http://www.boatinfo.no/lib/mercruise...er10.html#/230). The fuel hose goes straight into this and from that straight into the carb. No spin-on inline water separating fuel filter. I'm aware there's a small fuel filter within the pump that I can replace. I'd just love the added security of the water separating function. Can anyone help me with a solution? Preferably OEM/stock looking but not totally necessary

EDIT: Looks like such things exist: http://www.boatbandit.com/quicksilver-35-802893q4-water-separating-fuel-filter-kit-5836.aspx. I'd still prefer an OEM solution but can you all tell me if this would work out fine? It should be installed before the pump I assume

Thanks! I was honestly thinking that in the instance that it came on the boat that way that the filter would exist mounted to and below the pump. Guess my inexperience is showing :) Thanks for the help

just mount it in any convenient location and run the hose from the tank to the arrow marked inward and hose from the arrow marked outward to the fuel pump. Oil the gasket the same way you do a oil filter and install HAND TIGHT

One other question if you don't mind Bt Doctur. If I were to install this auxiliary fuel filter would I remove the filter that's within/below the fuel pump, or keep it in there? I know it can't hurt unless the pump isn't strong enough to pull it through 2 filters

Ayuh,.... Welcome Aboard,.... You can leave the filters in the fuel pump, 'n carb inlet fittin',...

They just won't need changin' very often,...
