Hi All,
So in the process of trying to sell my boat and a potential buyer found this crack in the strake. Probably caused from misalignment on the trailer. I decided to try to fix it myself, stupidly. I grabbed a fiberglass repair kit and began sanding down the area for a repair. Above, within, and below the initial crack was very soft, rotted material which I removed. However, I think I removed way too much and got down into the material of the strake (I am not that familiar with boat hull materials is it foam or wood I sanded into?). Can anyone tell me if I can salvage this, and how to or did I basically just ruin my hull in my haste to try and fix it. Sanded down about 1/2-5/8 of an inch into the strake at the deepest point.
Album below has the crack before, close up, and after sanding / grinding.
