Hello everyone,

I have an 87 SeaRay with the ford 2.3L engine we use primarily for fishing. Lately its been very underpowered lately so on a hunch I bought a compression tester this weekend and tested the cylinders. 1-3 were in the 120 psi range, #4 was 80. I squirted in some oil and retested and it jumped up to 110 psi.

So it looks like a ring job is in order, possibly a bore and new pistons, I wont know till I open it up. I might wait until the fall though if it continues to run with no issues, then rebuild it over the winter. Depends on my time.

My question is, what ford auto engines are compatible for parts? I know ford is out of the marine business for this particular engine. I looked up engine kits online and the kits differ it seems based on if its a roller cam or not. I have never had the valve cover off of this engine so no idea about its internals.

If I can find a compatible ford car / truck I can order parts for, it will save one heck of a lot of headaches and $$$ than trying to track down marine parts.

Can someone point me in the right direction?

Thanks in advance

There was a base sticker attached to the valve cover with an additional sticker below it which results in 4 numbers. They are as follows:

Base sticker:
232APSRC T 0994115

Additional Sticker:

985193 T 05117792

Bump.

If someone could just tell me what year / vehicle is compatable with this engine I'd appreciate it (ie: 1987 ford ranger, escort... whatever).

A quick google search shows Pinto's and Rangers in that era. However, it may be marine specific as they also show overhead cams. There has to be a serial number stamped in the block. Try to google that. If the casting is wrong, none of the outdrive stuff will fit. The ford gurus oughta know where it is located and chime in....
