87 force 125 engine mounts

I have recently decided to repair my boat that has been sitting for several years. I have noticed that the engine seems to wobble forward and backward in the motor housing. Speaking to other people, I have been unable to conclude if this is a problem that needs to be repaired, or if the motor will work fine without repairing this. It looks like quite a job to repair. Any input is appreciated.

It's not as bad as it might seem. You have to remove the powerhead. A manual can help alot with that, but it comes off as an assembly and you can do it with common tools. The upper motor mount is under there. You'll probably just need RTV silicone to seal the powerhead back on. So the only thing you'll probably need to buy is the motor mount. But I'd strongly advise replacing the water pump impeller as well. If gas was left in it, you'll need to rebuild the carbs.

You actually don't have to pull the powerhead on that motor. I just did a powerhead swap on my 1989 Force 120 this weekend(used an '88 125 for the head).<br /><br />Remove the cover on the leg that's towards the rear of the motor. 6 - 1/2" bolts. That will expose the two main bolts that go up into the mounts from underneath. You'll also need to pull all the bolts from the lower cowl on the boat side of the motor (about half of them). They are the bolts that if you remove your engine cover and look down, they run all along the outside of the block.<br /><br />At that point, the motor is free. Either use a hoist or a friend because it's heavy!! Basically, the motor will come off complete, leaving the mount and one trim piece hanging on the boat.<br /><br />Oh, and don't forget to disconnect: wiring, fuel hoses, steering, shift/throttle linkage, etc. Unless you've got 3 feet of slack in everything and can have someone hold the motor while you swap mounts
