87 3.0 sputters and dies

My 3.0 seems to run fine, when cool. After it has had a chance to warm up, it does several things. It just seems like it's loading up. It will even stall at WOT. Starts right up and even seems to run OK for a while. I've even heard it miss when I hit rough water. I've been told "vapor lock" but I don't think that's it. I have a rebuild kit. Any other ideas?

I can think of a few things to check...

Vacuum leaks. like loose, cracked or tweeked intake or carb base.

Carb problems. Choke sticking, is the wire on the choke? Is there 12v to this wire? When warm check to see if choke is open.

Ign coil going bad.

Start with a compression check cold and another after you run on muffs and warm up.

Spray some carb spray around the carb base and manifold mounting area when idling and see if rpms change. This will help determine vac. leaks.

Thanks! I'll try your suggestions. I have a feeling it's in the carb. Can't hurt to replace the 22 yr. old coil either huh?
