Wish I could - the laugh is that of the 3 mercruiser manuals that I've looked at so far they all say "Normal Operating Temperature" and never state a value.

In any event, would you agree that a boat operating at 130 degrees has a problem even if it has a 140 degree thermostat?

Agree on the poor documentation. There are also different stats for closed and seawater cooling, but I can't find it.

Yes, on the temp question but I concur with others that it is probably a gauge issue. My boat's temp gauge shows 180 at 155 confirmed with an independent check right at the sender . . .

I am moving this to the I/O section. We try to keep this section free of engine topics . . . :)

Sorry, New to forums and this bad boy is massive. I didn't know which way to turn!

My 92 3.0L runs 130-140. Has for years. Your problem is in the carb. You are flooding the engine after shutdown. It is most likely then getting some gas into the oil each time this happens and this will cause foaming in the oil breather. Get it fixed before you have and explosion in the crankcase. THIS IS BAD

Re: 87 3.0 Mercuiser works great! then..........

Just wondering if this might be related. I know this engine does not have a PCV valve, but there was a piece of tube just sitting on my engine block that is has a nut on one end and a pressure fitting looking thing on the other. Its wrapped in a sleave. Looks like one end screws into the carb and the other into the manifold. When I asked my tech he said it was a reduddant part as the original carb was a manual choke and the new one is electronic. Just grasping at straws here, but maybe someone can confirm his statement.
