87 125 force ?

i just recently purchased a 87 bayliner cobra with a 125 force outboard. i can't get the boat's rpms over 2500 when in the water. if i run the motor out of the water it responds fine. does anyone have any ideas on what the problem or problems might be

Most likely you have no spark on one cylinder.Get yourself a manual(possibly at the library)and follow the instructions for checking spark.Careless ignition trouble shooting can damage the system.You could also
check the plugs.Most likely you will find one wet. You could also CAREFULLY
feel each plug after running one will most likely be cooler than the others.
Be careful as they could be very hot if working.
