86 mercury 90 hp inline 6 started rattling at idle

Hey everyone, I've got a 86 90 hp tower of power that started rattling at idle. was running fine till yesterday...I was running it on the muffs I heard a noise then the rattling/ knocking started. anyone have any experience with these engines? Thanks.

Checked flex plate on the flywheel for cracks ?-----Stainless prop ?----If so take it off and test run.
