I have a 1987 Mercruiser 140 with the same problem. Has never not started before. I replaced the coil but seem to get any spark out of it.

I have no safety lanyard (that I can find anyways).

I have 2 purple (one lighter color) wires on the "+" of the coil distribtor a grey (to distribtor) and grey on the "-".

I've pressed the re-set on the circuit breaker to be sure it's not the problem.

Don't just tack onto a 2 year old thread and expect to get any answers.
Start a new topic with your problem and you will get plenty of help.

Yeah, the older I get ,the more it just hangs too.:'(.
