boat sat around for ever .. Just got the carbs off ready for a good soak ..

1. what product do you guys recommend to let these carbs soak for awile ( butterfly valves are stuck and tarnish on bottom carb ) They need some real good TLC.

2. The gas tank is also full of sludge . What is a good way to break up that sludge ..2 stroke engine oil and gas mixture so the sludge is pretty bad .. It has not been run since 1995 .. thanks in advance

While you have the tank out, take it and spray the inside out with a cleaning wand that can be bought at local farm store, or make one out of copper tubing. Cleaning solution can be bought there also, Spray the tank out with these as it is upside down then blow it out with air hose or rinse with garden hose, Leave it dry out and clean it again if nessary. You should have it clean and dry before replacing it. The spray wand will have a air hook up with a suction hose that goes in the cleanning solution, and can be used for other tasks as well afterward.

I have heard that household vinegar poured in the tank and sloshed around periodically will clean up the tank....nice thing it's cheap. Obviously you have to get it out before you use the tank. Berryman's Chem Tool is the ultimate varnish remover if you ask me. Most auto parts stores stock it and it comes in aerosol and liquid in a pint can. Directions on the can. Use the pint and soak the whole carb for a few days then clean up the ports and blow everything out. Spray is for touch up.
