85hp stalling

Hi i have a 1969 evenrude 85hp outboard i bought it this spring and has run great up till just recently i had it out on the lake and it kept dyeing on me i could get it restarted again but kept getting worse then finally it would not start at all it would just turn over i'm thinking maybe my fuel filter is plugged but not sure does anyone have any suggestions on what might be going on.
