About a month ago I bought a 24' Pontoon boat with a 85hp Yamaha outboard. C85 Model.
So I was cruising across the lake the other day and suddenly the motor shut off. When I looked back, the entire lower unit had fallen off my motor, in the deepest part of the lake of course.
So I got on ebay and after some research found a lower unit off a 70 hp from the same year that I was told would work if I replaced the water pump with the one from a 85/90hp unit, and that was the only difference.
So I go to change the pump out with a brand new 85hp pump and its slightly different. The drive shaft diameter is slightly too thin and the larger pump wont seal around the shaft. Also the lower water pump plate is slightly different.
So now Im not exactly sure what to do? Will the smaller pump from a 70hp provide enough water to cool a 85hp? Is it easy to change out the shaft to the larger diameter and use the larger pump?
Any advice?
