PM if you need the Service Manual. I have for Force Motors 84 through 99
You broke in the "right" position which means when you put it in reverse, the spinning propeller will cause the motor to lift out of the water. Not good. You very rarely have to use that lockout switch. It would have been better if you broke it in the "left" postion.yes i can tilt the motor.
I have a buzzer that goes off if the engine overheats. Thought that was standard on a 85 H.P.do you know what is the operating temp of the cyl head should be and what not to exceed.
I went to the lawnmower parts section of Home Depot and bought the replacement nylon line with handle that would normally be used to repair a broken starter puller for a regular push mower. I keep it with a small selection of tools in case problems on the water. You can also pull start that motor if you needed in a pinch.
Not sure what waters you traverse with you boat, but since I stick to inland lakes and marinas, I have never had to lift the motor except a few times where I went camping and they allow you to dock your boat near the campsite and the shoreline is shallow. Do not have to tilt the motor to launch the boat or trailer it out of the ramps (at least the ones I use). There is probably around 4" of clearance between the motor and the pavement when launching the boat. That boat didn't actually come with tilt and trim or at least the one we bought from the boatshow in 84 didn't. You manually lifted the engine when you got close to shore and locked it with that lever.
There is grease sold at most marinas. For the few extra bucks, I would recommend you buy a grease specifically intended for boats. I admit it may not be much different then other similar greases sold for motor vehicles, but read the packaging at least and decide.Any kind of grease wiil do
Even after running the engine all out, I can easily place my hand on and around the motor without discomfort. At least on my 85 H.P. motor, it runs warm at worst and NEVER hot.I think??? Around 160 deg.Hotter than that??
You should be able to touch the cylinder head without burning your hand.
