I just got a boat and first time out it has no power at all.The carbs are wide open, it idles and wants to die. Ill give it gas and it wont even go. were should i look before i decide to go to a shop.
First thing to have done is a compression test. This will tell you if you have a serious problem before you start dumping money into a no win situation. After compression test is done and good do a spark test on each cylinder. If spark is good you will want to start with fuel pump rebuild and carbs link and Sync and possibly cleaning and rebuilding. Sorry the answwers are so generic but there is not much information to go on here. If compression numbers are good you should get a service manual. It might be hard to find a chrysler mechanic anymore. They are hard to come by these days.
Probably numbers around 125 psi on each cylinder. Make sure you pull all the plugs when testing and ground the tips of the spark plugs so you dont damage the ignition system. You want to see less then 5 point deviation on each cylinder.
You can take the head gasket off and then inspect the damage and see what you can see. If you are lucky it is a 35 dollar head gasket. If there is piston damage or cylinder damage it is best to part out the motor on Ebay and get a different one. Rebuids for chryslers are hard to find and replacement parts are getting tougher and tougher to find. Feel lucky that you did not dump 4 to 5 hundred in electrical parts or fuel parts to fix this motor.
