There should be 12 nuts and bolts total, plus the shift disconnect. There are the six long bolts (three per side), two short bolts forward (1 per side), two nutted studs further forward, and two nutted studs aft (hidden up in the recess under the exhaust cover).

The heads for the 83 140 hp crossflow are different and unique to that engine. these heads are NLA and somewhat rare
Wonder why? What's so difernt 'bout em? Not tryin to be a smarta**, just that I happen to own one. Runs like a bat outa hell btw, 130+ in all holes.

OP. I'd shop around for a lil better price on machine work & parts. I paid $30 bucks a hole to have my 90 bored .030 over. A thousand bucks for pistons & gaskets? Yikes! If I were you I'd do a lil shopping around.

the 85 power head is off, i cant seperate the 140 from the mid section too many bolt heads rusted away.
If i go with a reman i will just trade in both cores anyway.

The difference is the ignition coils and mounting as basically 1978 140 is the same head but coil mounting is different but cc's are the same, as is the 1977 140 but only difference is it does not have coil mounting boss cast on it.
