Hi, i was just given a boat with a 1968 85 hp Johnson o/b motor, i was told it ran last year and i am trying to get it started now. when i turn the key, no power seems to turn the engine. I can hear a small one time click sound when I turn key back, the sound comes from the engine. I then jumped the engine from a 12 volt battery to the starter to see if the engine would turn. it did, everything seems to turn o.k. but kicks out after a second. i plan to clean the carb out, but everything else appears good, except the key switch. second question is, does the power from the key need to work in order for the engine to stay runnin. i am very new to boating and need some direction and advise. i am handy so am would like to learn and tackle this myself. another thing is that the gas may be old, so i will be replacing that asap. thanks for your help. -dfully-
