85 HP Force Trim/Tilt Inconsistent

I have an ‘88 Bayliner Capri with a Force 85 HP outboard (hold your applause). The trim and tilt are working sporadically.

A week ago it stopped working altogether. I greased the connections at the front switch and it started working again. It really flung the motor up and down.

Today I discovered the switch on the motor when I bumped it and the motor went up at a healthy speed. I put it back down with the motor switch.

THEN I tried to move it with the front switch and it got weird. It would only raise the motor from the front switch if the rear motor switch was flipped that direction. Same with lowering it. Very quickly, it lost power and only inched along. I had to push to help the system move up or down (while a friend ran the switch).

I recharged the battery and it got moving again, albeit slowly. I put it on the water and ran around for about 90 minutes. The starter had plenty of power to it and the motor fired up in a split second. When I got back to the dock the trim and tilt were unresponsive.

I bypassed the rear switch and could raise the motor by flipping the front switch and also lifting on the motor. Otherwise the system was too weak on its own.

The big seal below the motor looks like it is slowly leaking out.

Are any of these recognizable symptoms? Where should I start?

The T@T system has a couple of relays that the connections go bad.
Take them apart and clean the connections on EVERYTHING!!
They can be gotten at a good parts store like Napa where they have a parts person. Not a store like Advance or o Ryley's

Thank you for that advice! I pulled them all apart to find that they were replaced shortly before I bought it. I greased them up anyway. I think the trim switch on the motor is not stock. It would stay in the up or down position, instead of springing back to neutral. It was in the up position and I used the front switch, which I think shorted everything out. I found a breaker switch in the motor housing and it made the whole system work again!
