I have a 1986 85 hp force, the exaust exits out the prop and an exuast port 1/2 way up between the lower unit and power head. on the inside of the motor a rubber baffle connects this port with the actual exaust port from the the motor . inside the rubber baffle is a spring and a white plastic disc that the spring end sits in .The plastic pc in my motor looks like it was melted and half blocks the opening for the exuast to exit . does anyone know what purpose this part serves and can i just leave it out on reassembly . if it is just a devise to hold the spring can i cut back the plastic to open the passageway and reassemble????

Not good at force, but i think it is an iddle exhaust. It is probably melted in connection with a bad impeller once. It only gets rid of the water in leg, when iddling with leg lowered.

However it was build this way by factory, and be sure everything works best like they build it, so you better replace !!

GETDANET, you need this piece in place...it holds the rubber exhaust releif bellows in the proper shape to seal into the hole in the rear cowling....without it you will allow exhaust gases into the cowling, with crappy motor operation resulting...

Yesir..What ODDD1 said. You might be able to fashion a replacement by using epoxy, some cloth, and a homemade "mold" in the shape of the original. Just a thought,as it may require some searching to find another one.
The 50HP does not have that same design, but if it did,I'd have two for you.
