I finally got the original drain plug out, the problem is that the drain plug is on its last leg. If I put it back in , i wont be able to remove it again. I visited a local marine shop and they stated that they did not have the part, they told me to visit a local hardware shop.

I went to the hardware shop and they only had the plug in steel, not stainless. I dont want to use this obviously. I need help finding a new drain plug.

Oder it online from www.mcmaster.com. Cheaper to buy a box of SS hardware from them than one piece from Mercury.

You will also find they have the seals for the lower unit fill plugs.

Do you have those part numbers and are these the same plugs and seals used on the 1988 Force 125?

The lowers on the '85 and '88 are almost identical except for the gear ratio. The fill and drain plugs should be the same.
